  1. Hi… would be nice if non-bengali speaking n reading persons can also understand these names of relations. May be you can also write the Bengali (or any reginal words) in Roman English next to the original words.

    Well, it is a nice suggestion and I have received it from many readers. I don’t prefer transliteration because it is limited in its usage–the original sound or pronunciation of the word is often lost.

    So, I prefer who tries to learn language that first get your hands on the alphabet and then try learning the words in their original form. Thanks anyway.

  3. Khala implies mother’s sister, Moni means jem or jewel and is often attached to the name of your mom’s closest sister. so Khalamoni would roughly mean “dearest aunt”
