Life cycle of Ubuntu 7.10 ended on April 18, 2009
Well, if you had been through the upgrades of Ubuntu for the last 1.5-2 years, you need to say good-bye to the earliest version of Ubuntu that you might have used for your computers.
The life of Ubuntu 7.10 ended on April 18, 2009 and there won’t be any support from the communities for this version of Ubuntu.
It is noticeable here that the supported upgrade path from Ubuntu 7.10 is via Ubuntu 8.04 LTS. If you would like to know instructions and caveats for the upgrade, you can check this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardyUpgrades.
If you want to upgrade to the latest version of Ubuntu from Ubuntu 7.10, you need to get it in multiple steps and not directly. First you will have to Ubuntu 8.04 LTS, then to 8.10 and then to the latest version of Ubuntu 9.04.
The Ubuntu 8.04 LTS and Ubuntu 8.10 versions are still actively supported by communities but you can’t get more support and security for Ubuntu 7.10.
If has been a long journey for Ubuntu but it continues to give what it stands for–long live the spirit of Ubuntu.
