I remember I was sitting in Kaua’i when somebody asked me: ‘How do you say “I love you in Punjabi?” I was kind of confused because we don’t say it–most of the youngsters use the English expression itself. If I am not exaggerating it, I have never heard anybody say to someone ‘I love you in Punjabi’ language literally translated.
It became a curious subject for me and I decided to write about it, in case somebody really wants to try.
English | Punjabi | Transliteration |
I love you (male) | ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦਾ ਹਾਂ | Mai’n Tainū Piyāra Karadā Hā’n |
I love you (female) | ਮੈਂ ਤੈਨੂੰ ਪਿਆਰ ਕਰਦੀ ਹਾਂ | Mai’n Tainū Piyāra Karadī Hā’n |
The word ‘ਪਿਆਰ’ can also be replaced with ‘ਪ੍ਰੇਮ’.
