He was born to the legendary singer, actor, musician and what not–Kishore Kumar. He had to carry the burden of enormous expectations and he did exceptionally well.
Amit Kumar, like his father, did not take any formal tutelage for singing but had a knack of picking up music quite easily.
In the year 1981, he sang for the film “Love Story”, which fetched him the Filmfare Award beating his own father in the nominations.
He later on sang with all the famous singers and music directors who liked him and his voice pretty much.
After the untimely death of his father, R. D. Burman and Laxmikant Pyarelal helped him by giving him a number of songs.

He recorded almost 170 Hindi songs
