He remains an inspiration for anyone who considers hard-work as the cornerstone of success. He ran bare-foot but surprised the whole world with his single-minded dedication.
Milkha Singh owes his success to military where he was spotted to have the capability of being a runner. He went on to win Asian Gold Medal and Commonwealth Gold Medal before breaking the World Record and Olympics record.
Unfortunately, he missed the Olympics medal by a whisker and he wishes to see that somebody does it for the country.
He was born in Pakistan and lost his parents during partition, and it was in Pakistan only where he got the sobriquet “Flying Sikh” when General Ayub Khan told him that ‘you flew instead of running’. He was later felicitated with Padma Shree and Arjuna Award.
He says it is not the lines of the palm that decide what you would become in life; rather, it is your hard-work and will-power that decide.
We present a telephonic interview with Milkha Singh.
