He remains dedicated to uplift the status of Santoor as an accepted instrument that can deal the dexterity of Indian classical music. As per him, he was dedicated to the command and wish of his Guru (His father Pt. Uma Dutt Sharma) and was also chosen by God as a medium to achieve this task.
While young, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, good looking as he was (and is!), was offered a role in films too, but he was focused on Santoor and no wonder that his single-minded devotion to the instrument earned him world-wide fame, while he established the status of the instrument on world-stage with majesty.
Hailed as one of the most versatile and accomplished exponents of Indian classical music, he says that music to him is spirituality. He says that he tries to connect with his own self while he plays the music and wants the audience to feel the same spiritual bliss.
Along with Pt. Hariprasad Chaurasia, the flute wizard, he created some of the best known songs of the Hindi film industry. The duo is recognized and revered by peers and audience alike as a blessing.
