உலகப் பொதுமறை என்று போற்றப்படும் திருக்குறள் மனித குலம் முழுவதற்கும் தேவைப்படும் உலக அறிவையும் விழுமியங்களையும் வழங்கி காலத்தால் அழியாத புகழைப் பெற்றுள்ளது. திருக்குறளின் சிறப்புகளை நாம் இந்தக் கட்டுரையில் காண்போம்.

திருக்குறள் சங்க காலத்தில் தோன்றிய நூல்களில் தலையாய படைப்பாகும். தமிழ் இலக்கியங்களுக்கு மகுடம் வைத்தாற்போல் திருவள்ளுவரால் இயற்றப்பட்ட திருக்குறள் மொழி, இனம், மதம், சாதி, சமயம் என்ற வேறுபாடுகளின்றி மாந்தர் அனைவருக்கும் எந்தக் காலத்திற்கும் பொருந்தும் நீதிகளை வழங்குகிறது. ஆராய்ச்சிகள் திருக்குறள் இரண்டாயிரம் ஆண்டுகளுக்கு மேல் தொன்மை வாய்ந்தது என்று கூறுகின்றன.
திருக்குறள் இன்று பல்வேறு மொழிகளில் மொழி பெயர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழரின் வாழ்வியல் அறிவினையும் நீதி நெறிகளையும் இந்த உலகிற்குப் பறைசாற்றும் விதமாக அமைந்த திருக்குறளில் காணப்படாத நீதியோ வாழ்வியல் சிந்தனையோ இல்லை எனலாம்.
திருக்குறள் இரண்டு அடிகளால் அமைந்த பாக்களை உடையது. திருக்குறள் குறள் வெண்பா என்னும் பாவகையைச் சார்ந்தது. இதனால்தான் இது திருக்குறள் என்று வழங்கப்படுகிறது. இதன் சிறிய பாவகையால் “அணுவைத் துளைத்து ஏழ் கடலைப் புகுத்தி குறுகத்தரித்த குறள்” என்று ஒளவையாரால் புகழப்பட்டது. மிகப்பெரிய உண்மைகளையும் கருத்துக்களையும் மிகத்தே தெளிவாகவும் சுருக்கமாகவும் எடுத்து இயம்புவதில் திருக்குறளுக்கு நிகர் ஏதும் இல்லை.
திருக்குறளில் மொத்தம் 133 அதிகாரங்கள் உள்ளன. ஒரு அதிகாரத்திற்கு 10 குறட்பாக்கள் என்ற வகையில் மொத்தம் திருக்குறள் நூலில் 1330 பாக்கள் உள்ளன.
திருக்குறளை திருவள்ளுவர் மூன்று பிரிவுகளாகப் பிரித்துள்ளார். அறத்துப்பால், பொருட்பால், இன்பத்துப்பால் என்ற இந்த மூன்று பிரிவுகளும் வாழ்வின் மூன்று முக்கியமான அம்சங்களான அறம், பொருள் இன்பம் ஆகியவற்றை சார்ந்த கருத்துக்களை எடுத்து இயம்புகின்றன.
மனித வாழ்கைக்குத் தேவையான எல்லா அறக்கருத்துக்களையும் ஒருங்கே கூறுவதால் திருக்குறள் பலவாறு போற்றப்படுகிறது. இதன் சில சிறப்புப் பெயர்கள் திருக்குறள், முப்பால், உத்தரவேதம், தெய்வநூல், பொதுமறை, பொய்யாமொழி, வாயுறை வாழ்த்து, தமிழ் மறை, திருவள்ளுவம் என்பவையாகும்.
திருக்குறள் பெரும்பாலான இந்திய மொழிகளிலும் 170 க்கும் மேற்பட்ட உலக மொழிகளிலும் மொழி பெயர்க்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. திருக்குறள் காட்டும் வாழ்வியல் நெறிகள் காலத்தால் அழியாதவை நமது மகிழ்ச்சியான மற்றும் வெற்றிகரமான வாழ்விற்கு வழிகாட்டுபவை.

Thirukkural was authored during the Sanga Kalam, the period in Tamil literature before the beginning of the Christian era. In total, there are 133 chapters in Thirukkural. In every chapter, there are 10 poems and hence there are 1330 poems in Thirukkural.
Thiruvalluvar has partitioned Thirukkural into three segments. These three chapters namely Arathupal, Porutpal, and Inbathupal deal about the concepts pertaining to morals, acquiring wealth, and enjoying life respectively.
Thirukkural has been praised by giving it a number of titles. Some of the titles of Thirukkural include Muppal, Utharavedam, Theivanul, Pothumarai, Poyyamozhi, Vayurai Vazhthu, Thamizh Marai, and Thiruvalluvam.
Thirukkural has been translated into more than 170 world languages. The ideals shown by Thirukkural are immortal and are guiding posts to our happy and successful life.
