பெண்கள் காலம் காலமாக பல சமூகங்களிலும் ஆண்களுக்கு அடிமைப் பட்டு கிடந்தமை வரலாற்றிலிருந்து நாம் அறிவதாகும். பெண்கள் தமது உரிமைகளை உணர்ந்து ஆண்களுக்கு சரிநிகர் சமானமாய் எல்லாத் துறைகளிலும் பிரகாசிக்கும் காலம் ஏற்கெனவே மலர்ந்து விட்டது. பெண்கள் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு நாம் இன்னும் செய்ய வேண்டுவன யாவை என இக்கட்டுரையில் காண்போம்.

பல சமுதாயங்களில் காலம் காலமாக பெண்கள் முக்கியமான முடிவுகளை தாமாக எடுக்க அனுமதி மறுக்கப் பட்டுவந்துள்ளது. ஆண்களின் அடக்கு முறையால் பெண்கள் விடுகளுக்குள் அடைபட்டு அவர்களது ஒரே கடமை வீட்டினைப் பேணி வீட்டிலுள்ளோருக்குப் பணி செய்வது ஒன்றே என்ற கருத்தே மேலோங்கி நின்றது. பல சமூகங்களில் பெண்களுக்கு படிப்புரிமையும் வேலை வாய்ப்பு உரிமையும் மறுக்கப்பட்டு வந்துள்ளது. இதனால் பெண்கள் தமது அறிவினையும் திறமைகளையும் வெளிப்படுத்தி வாழ்வில் எந்த சாதனைகளையும் நிகழ்த்த வாய்ப்பில்லாமல் இருந்து வந்தது.
கடந்த ஒரு நூற்றாண்டாக உலகம் தழுவிய நிலையில் பெண்கள் முன்னேறி வந்தாலும், இன்னமும் நாம் பெண்கள் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு தேவையான பல பணிகளை செய்ய வேண்டியுள்ளது. இந்தியாவில் பெண்கள் முன்னேற்றத்திற்குப் பல தடைகள் உள்ளன.
பெண்கள் இன்னமும் பல சமூகங்களில் ஒரு குடும்பத்திற்கு தேவையற்ற சுமையாகக் கருதப்படுகின்றனர். அதனால் பெண் சிசுக்கொலை இன்னமும் மறையவில்லை.
பெண்களுக்கு உயர் கல்வி மறுக்கப்பட்டு அவர்கள் சிறு வயதிலேயே மணமுடிக்கப்படுகின்றனர். திருமணத்திலும் பெண்கள் தாமாக முடிவெடுக்க மறுக்கப்படுகின்றனர்.
பல துறைகளில் இன்னமும் பெண்களுக்கு வேலை வாய்ப்பு மறுக்கப்பட்டு வருகிறது.
மேற்கண்ட நிலைகள் மாற வேண்டும். பெண்கள் ஆண்களுக்கு எந்த வகையிலும் சளைத்தவர்கள் அல்லர் என்பதை நாம் ஏட்டிலும் கவிதைகளிலும் மட்டுமில்லாமல் நிஜ வாழ்க்கையிலும் செயல்படுத்த வேண்டும்.
பெண்கள் தமது திறமைகளையும் உரிமைகளையும் உணரும் வகையிலும் அவர்களிடம் முற்போக்கு சிந்தனைகளையும் தன்னம்பிக்கையையும் வளர்க்கும் வகையிலும் கல்வியின் மூலமாகவும் பிற பல வகையிலும் அவர்களை ஊக்குவிக்க வேண்டும். பெண்களுக்கு கல்வியிலும் பிற துறைகளிலும் வாய்ப்புக்களை ஏற்படுத்தித்தர வேண்டும்.
இந்திய அரசியலமைப்பு சட்டத்தில் பெண்களுக்கு பல உரிமைகளும் சலுகைகளும் வழங்கப்பட்டுள்ளன. ஆயினும் அரசும், சமுதாயமும் இந்த வகையில் பல பணிகளை செய்து பெண்கள் முன்னேற்றத்திற்கு வழி செய்ய வேண்டும்.

In most societies of the world, women had been suppressed and enslaved by men over a long time in history. However, over the recent years, women have been doing well equal to men in several arenas of life and are proving their talents and knowledge. However, we need to do a lot to empower women, which we shall discuss in this essay.
In most societies of the world, women could not make decisions on their own for a long time in history. Due to oppression by men, women had been confined to the homes and they were told that their one and only responsibility was to take care of the household. In many societies, education and profession were completely denied to women. Hence women could not prove their knowledge and talents on par with men.
Over the past century, there has been a marked improvement with regard to women empowerment. However, we need to do a lot of work in this connection. In India there are several hurdles to women’s progress.
In many societies in India, women are still considered a burden to the households. Hence infanticide and feticide are still prevalent in many societies.
Women are being denied of higher education and are given in marriage in their young age. They are also denied to take independent decisions with regard to their marriage.
In several domains, women are denied employment.
The conditions listed above must change. We must work towards emancipation and empowerment of women not only in literature, but also in actual life.
We must cultivate revolutionary thoughts in women and make them understand their capabilities through education and other awareness programs. In education and profession, women must be given equal opportunities like men.
The Indian constitution gives women a number of rights and privileges. However, the government and public must work more in this line and pave way for women empowerment.
