In this post, we are providing the English lyrics or English transliteration of the Sri Mahalakshmi Ashtakam mantra, which is a part of the Padma Purana. There are 11 stanzas and a total of 22 lines in this mantra. At the end of the Ashtakam itself, it is mentioned that a person can decide to recite this mantra regularly once, twice, or thrice in a day–depending on that, the fruit will be bestowed.
For the reference of users who are also learning the Devanagari script used in the Sanskrit language, we have also provided the original Sanskrit words so that you could match them and understand the meaning, joining, and pronunciation of these words in a better way. As you start reading Mahalakshmi mantra, you will notice that there are multiple words joining together to make a name attributed to the Goddess or an attribute of the Goddess that is eulogized. The sound of the pronunciation of these names fills you with joy and strength as you begin to understand the meaning also.
Variety of Names in Mahalakshmi Ashtakam
Some of the names attributed to Goddess Lakshmi is this mantra are very interesting and intriguing at the same time, and they make you marvel at the poetic ingenuity. For example, आद्यन्तरहिते (Ādyantarahite)–this word means ‘The one who is start-end-less); another one is महाशक्तिमहोदरे (Mahāśaktimahodare)–this word means ‘The supreme power and the one who has a supreme belly’, which is interesting because Lord Ganesha is particularly attributed the name of Lambodara, which means ‘The one having a large belly’. The similarity in these names often vindicates the unity of singularity of the Godhead, though the names and forms are different.
