The honest and compassionate farmer
A king goes for hunt with his soldiers. The team was hungry after a long day. The kind ordered them to fetch food grains from the nearby fields. The soldiers approached the nearby village and asked a farmer for the largest field in the village. The farmer showed a farm. The soldiers started cutting the crops in the field. The farmer asked what they were doing. He then requested them to cut the grains from another farm.
The soldiers were bewildered and asked why he was showing them a different field. The farmer replied: the farm I showed earlier belongs to someone else. I should not be the reason for his loss. So now I am showing my own farm from which you can take the crops. I do not mind suffering the loss myself. Astonished by his honesty and compassion, the soldiers recommended the king to give the farmer a lot of presents and money.
விவசாயியின் இரக்க குணம்
ஒரு சமயம் ஒரு மன்னன் தன் வீரர்களுடன் காட்டில் வேட்டையாடப் போனார். நேரம் ஆகவே அவர்களுக்கு மிகவும் பசியாக இருந்தது. மன்னன் தன் வீரர்களிடம் அருகிலிருந்த கிராமத்திற்கு சென்று ஒரு வயலிலிருந்து தானியங்களைக் கொண்டு வரச் சொன்னார்.
சில வீரர்கள் மன்னனின் கட்டளையை ஏற்று ஒரு கிராமத்திற்கு சென்றனர். அங்கே ஒரு விவசாயியைப் பார்த்து இங்கு இருப்பதிலேயே பெரிய வயல் எது என்று கேட்டனர். அந்த விவசாயியும் ஒரு வயலைக் காட்டினார். அந்த வீரர்கள் உடனே வயலில் இறங்கி தானியங்களை அறுக்கத் தொடங்கினர். விவசாயி அவர்கள் என்ன செய்கிறார்கள் எனக் கேட்டார். நாங்கள் பசிக்காக இந்த வயலிலுள்ள தானியங்கள் முழுவதையும் அறுக்கிறோம் என்று வீரர்கள் கூறினர்.
வீரர்களை சற்று பொறுக்குமாறு கூறிய விவசாயி அவர்களை வேறு ஒரு வயலுக்கு அழைத்துச் சென்று இந்த வயலில் தானியம் அறுத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று கூறினார். வீரர்கள் ஏதும் புரியாமல் ஏன் வேறு ஒரு வயலிலிருந்து தானியங்களை அறுத்துச் செல்லுமாறு கூறுகிறாய் என்று கேட்டனர்.
விவசாயி சொன்னார். நான் முன்பு காட்டிய வயல் வேறு ஒருவருடையது. என்னால் அவருக்கு நஷ்டம் வரக் கூடாது. இப்போது நான் காட்டும் வயல் என்னுடையது எனக்கு நஷ்டம் வந்தாலும் பரவாயில்லை எனவே இங்கு தானியங்களை அறுத்துக் கொள்ளுங்கள் என்று கூறினார்.
அந்த விவசாயியின் நேர்மையையும் இரக்க குணத்தையும் பார்த்த வீரர்கள் மன்னனிடம் சொல்லி அந்த விவசாயிக்கு பற்பல வெகுமதிகளை வாங்கித் தந்தனர்.
