A couple of months back, I visited Mehrauli Archeological Park, just close to Qutub Minar in Delhi. I visited this area with my wife and drove from Noida through Seva Nagar and under the Safdarjung Bridge.
Very strangely, it was a special task to locate the entrance of the park as no one around Qutab Minar knew where we wanted to go. If you know India, you understand that people around the area serve as a better guiding map than other tools and gadgets but that time, it did not work.
Directions to Mehrauli Archeological Park: If you are on foot, locate the last shop in the flower market near Qutab Minar and ask that you want to visit Jamali Kamali’s tomb instead of pronouncing the sophisticated words. Otherwise, just proceed to Gurgaon road and on the right side, you will find the gates to get your vehicle inside this area. If you taking a metro to reach this spot, the near metro station would be Qutub.
I am posting some photographs taken inside the area. The area serves as a park for children and old alike. Some of them play in the grounds available while visitors continue to marvel the antiquity of the architecture.
The main area that I liked in this park was the “Raja ki Bawli”. It is like an open well where people can descend down to the level of water and easily fetch it. In olden days, such open wells were aplenty. I have seen it in many Gurudwaras also. It offers you a retreat to the past architecture and a peep into the way of life of people of those times.
