Patiala provides a small but good retreat for wild-life enthusiasts. Yes, if you are photography-lover too, you can still try this place called Deer park. It is also known as Moti Bagh Deer Park and was established in 1968 within the Bir Moti Bagh wild life sanctuary. It is situated on the Patiala-Dakala road near the Sheesh Mahal. Reachable by mobike, car and bus also, this place is good lay-by for peace lovers.
I have visited this place many times–the first one was a bicycle ride from Nabha in 1995. A recent one allowed me to take some pictures of the inmates too. The situation of the animals in not too encouraging and it seems that the inmates are neglected by the authorities. But overall, if you have children with you, this place provides a good outing.
Some of the inmates could be named are: Crocodile, Blue Bull, Sambar Deer, Spotted Deer, Assamese Macaque, Hog Deer, Hare, Partridge, Peafowl, Emu, Porcupines, Civets, and various varieties of birds, etc.
The entrance ticket is 20/- INR per person and 10/- INR for a child under the age of 12 years. There is no parking charges for your bike or car. At the entrance gate, there is a small tuck-shop where you can have refreshments and snacks. Photography is also allowed inside the park.
